In Memory of HCAP Members

Sister Tahirah Abdul-Rashid

It is with great sadness that we completed the 2nd Policy Work Group Report  without our dear friend and  colleague, Sister Tahirah Abdul-Rashid who passed away on August 8, 2011. Sister Tahirah  was a founding member of the HCAP Policy Work Group and a passionate advocate for successful and sustainable community reintegration for formerly incarcerated individuals returning to Harlem. This report is dedicated to Sister Tahirah Abdul-Rashid. May

you rest in bountiful peace - Alhamdulillah!

Sister Mary Nerney

On November 27th, 2013 HCAP lost one of its founding warriors, Sister Mary Nerney. Sister Mary was a critical success factor of HCAP, especially as a founding member of its Policy Work Group which focused on examining policy barriers towards successful reintegration of formerly incarcerated individuals. Sister Mary was a stable force and leader of HCAP despite the many organizational challenges and reinventions which resulted in her becoming a co-founder of the HCAP as an independent 501c3 organization 14 years later. In addition to her work with formerly incarcerated women, mothers, and survivors of domestic violence, she was an unwavering stand for true community-based participate research and successfully demonstrated the value and impact of community-driven research processes.   Her presence, spirit, passion, and fight will be missed most of all. We will forever miss you Sister Mary - may your light be with us always.
